Resources and Support for Persons Affected by Cancer

This list identifies organizations that provide a variety of cancer-related resources. It is intended as a starting point for Ohioans affected by cancer to find the resources they need, wherever they are on their cancer journey.

The list includes organizations that offer resources nationwide, across Ohio, within regions of the state, or for specific communities. Several organizations included have their own lists of resources that are searchable by types of cancer or by types of support. Many of the resources have no cost, while some resources may have a sliding fee scale or be covered by health insurance. Contact the organization to find out about eligibility requirements or if they offer additional resources. Each organization listed has a general description, a link to their website, and information about the following categories of support they offer:

Education – Information about cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and navigating life with cancer.

Advocacy – Information and tools to advocate for policies that affect people with cancer and the cancer care system, as well as address personal cancer-related issues such as fertility and insurance.

Financial Support – Resources that help with services and/or costs associated with cancer, such as paying bills, covering medication expenses, food, gas, protheses or wigs.

Lodging & Transportation Assistance – Services that help with lodging and transportation for medical-related needs, such as rides to cancer-related appointments.

Emotional Support & Wellbeing – Support for those affected by cancer to cope with emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of cancer, including support group information.

Caregiver & Family Support – Support for people who are caring for someone who is living with cancer or died from cancer.

A group of individuals from the Ohio Partners for Cancer Control (OPCC) compiled the list with organizations that they share with their networks of cancer survivors, caregivers, and professional partners. The content in the list is for informational purposes and does not imply an endorsement or recommendation from OPCC and/or the Ohio Department of Health.
